When spring spreads out its wings the CosmopliClan can’t wait to jaunt. And that doesn’t always involve an extended weekend, a 2-day escapade nearby can be just as energizing. Last weekend we had targeted Holland. And where better to take 2 little girls than to the world-renowned Bollenstreek in South-Holland? Lucky for us, it is just a stone’s throw away from our home. Visiting the gardens of Keukenhof with kids is the perfect celebration of spring. The beautiful flower gardens cover an area as large as 80 acres. Over 7 million of flower bulbs and about 800 species of tulips awaited us.
Practicalities of our visit to Keukenhof with kids
Upon arrival we are guided to the parking lane. It quickly becomes clear that we did the right thing coming on a weekday (hooray for school’s Easter break). After just a 5 minute stroll we arrive at the entrance after passing not more than a handful of tour busses. And no need to wait our turn at the ticketing desk, we can immediately buy our tickets. The price is €16 per adult and €8 per child over the age of 4, plus a parking ticket for €6. A convivial atmosphere surrounds us and we see and hear visitors from all over the world.
We buy a pack of strawberries for each of us and our CosmopoliClan enjoys the buzz before exploring the park. As soon as we start following the path, the kids run around from one flowerbed to the other and seem not to get enough of the flowers. Keukenhof with kids, a match made in heaven.
Even though we might have come a week or so too early to admire the flowers in all their glory, we are still very impressed with the many variations and the impeccable and well-thought way they are being displayed.
Enjoying an ice cream or indulging in the typical poffertjes (mini pancakes) makes a nice distraction for the kids along the way, just like the petting zoo and play area. To add to their excitement the domain even features a beautiful mill. The marvel of flours never ceases to enchant. Let the pictures speak for themselves!
If you haven’t taken your children to these amazing garden yet, you should! Definitely if you leave close to Holland, because Keukenhof with kids makes for the perfect spring getaway. Check out the website to find out the opening dates for next year.
